What is Laser Engraving?

Laser engraving is a high-precision process that uses a focussed laser beam to remove material from a surface and create permanent marks. The laser beam heats the material, causing it to vaporise or melt, leaving a smooth, clean engraving. This method is suitable for a variety of materials, including metal, plastic, glass and wood. Laser engraving is extremely precise, durable and allows for complex designs and fine details that are difficult to achieve with traditional engraving methods.

Advantages of Engraving Parts

1. Easy Realisation: As a meviy customer, it is not necessary to create your markings in the CAD file. You can easily and conveniently make changes to the engraving directly after uploading the part into the 3D view.

2. Efficient Allocation and Traceability: Engravings help to clearly identify and track parts, which supports quality assurance and part management.

3. Cost Effective: Engraving custom mechanical parts offers significant cost advantages over traditional methods such as labels or stickers, which incur additional material and labour costs. Engravings are permanent, do not fade and do not wear off, eliminating the need for additional marking material. It also reduces the risk of errors due to missing or illegible labels.

Engraving the Part Number Automatic function

One of meviy's outstanding features is the automatic engraving of the part number, which can be added specifically to each sheet metal and milled part. This automatic marking makes it much easier to identify and sort future components. In addition, reordering is simplified as the part number can be read directly from the part. This saves time and effort as no additional documentation or identification processes are required, making reordering quick and straightforward.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Which process is used for engraving?

The engraving service from meviy offers two different processes for engraving - laser engraving or machining. It is not possible to select which process is used for your part. This is recorded and applied individually by the system. With laser engraving, the engraving is carried out after the surface treatment; with machining, it is carried out before the surface treatment.

What font sizes and characters are available?

The font sizes available for our engraving service are between 3mm - 30mm. Various characters such as letters, numbers and special characters (+-. #$%&()=*:? /_~) are available.

How do I position the engraving on the part?

Firstly, the desired surface must be selected. You can then define and save the engraving text. Once your engraving text has been created, you can select and freely position it in the 3D view. If the font size needs to be adjusted afterwards, you can easily rework the engraving text.

For which product categories and materials is the engraving service available?

The engraving service is currently available for sheet metal and milled parts. Available materials are steel, stainless steel and aluminium. Depending on the part, surface treatments are also available.
